Day: October 28th, 2006
Saturday in NJ
The winds blew hard, driving sheets of rain onto Columbus Avenue, as I left the apartment for Penn Station early this morning. We arrived in plenty of time for our train and settled into our damp seats for the long, sad ride to Westfield.
As the decidedly dreary Jersey landscape rolled by, I wanted to sleep, but couldn’t.
M conducted herself with remarkable poise that morning — displaying far more composure than I would have been able to conjure under similar circumstances.
Much later in the afternoon, the sun finally emerged, in time for our trip back into the city, and to our respective obligations. When work was done, I trudged home, crawled into bed, and for the first time in what felt like several days, fell fast asleep.
